The world can often be a strange place, and the common thread that binds us all is that strange events take place just about everywhere! Here are three strange tales from around the world that are sure to have you scratching your head.
The Soviet Hangover. In 1917 Bolshevik soldiers stormed the Czar’s palace during the Russian revolution, leading to the establishment of the Soviet Union. In the conflict, however, soldiers discovered what was at the time considered to be the world’s largest wine cellar, containing an estimated hundred million dollars worth of alcohol. A celebration was in order, and word quickly spread to civilians who joined in on the festivities in short order. The simply staggering amount of alcohol resulted in an overflow of drunken people on the streets of Russia’s capital for several weeks.
The Unlikeliest of Car Crashes. In 1895 there were a grand total of two cars being driven in the state of Ohio. Somehow, they managed to crash into each other. Luckily, nobody died in the crash.
There is no News. On April 18th, 1930 the 8:45 BBC news bulletin surprised many listeners when the news announcers stated nothing more than “There is no news.” The BBC then played piano music for the rest of the 15-minute segment before returning to their broadcast of Wagner’s Parsifal, performed at the Queen’s Hall in Langham Place, London.
